Every day at school matters! When a student misses school, they miss more than an assignment—they miss direct instruction, teacher explanations, class discussions, guided practice, interventions, and opportunities to ask questions in the moment. Those learning experiences can be difficult to fully recreate through make-up work alone. In Texas, the 90% attendance rule requires students in kindergarten through 12th grade to attend at least 90% of the days a class is offered to receive credit or a final grade, with certain pathways available under law for students who fall below that threshold. (Texas Statutes) Each absence represents a full day of instruction missed; for example, 5 absences equal roughly one school week of learning, 10 absences equal about two weeks, and 18 absences equal about 10% of a typical 180-day school year. Even when assignments are completed later, students have still missed the live teaching and interaction that happened that day. Attendance builds achievement, confidence, consistency, and connection—so whenever your child is healthy and able to attend, we need them at school, on time, and ready to learn.
