Health Notice to Parents and Guardians
Subject: Increased Flu and Strep Throat Cases
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to make you aware that we are seeing an increase in cases of influenza (flu) and strep throat throughout our school district and surrounding community. We are asking for your help in keeping our students, staff, and families healthy by being mindful of symptoms and taking extra precautions to prevent the spread of illness.
Please watch for the following symptoms:
- Fever or chills
- Cough, congestion, or runny nose
- Sore throat or difficulty swallowing
- Headache, body aches, or fatigue
- Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
- Red or swollen tonsils, sometimes with white patches
- Swollen or tender lymph nodes in the neck
How can you help prevent the spread?
- Encourage frequent handwashing with soap and water.
- Remind children to cover their coughs and sneezes.
- Avoid sharing drinks, food, and personal items.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
- Encourage adequate rest and hydration.
- Please keep your child home if they are sick or experiencing symptoms of illness.
When can my child return to school?
- Students should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication and well enough to participate in normal school activities before returning.
- Students diagnosed with strep throat must also be fever-free and have completed at least 12–24 hours of appropriate antibiotic treatment, in accordance with school policy and medical guidance.
- For students with flu, symptoms should be improving overall for at least 24 hours before returning. Students who have had a fever must also be fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
If your child develops symptoms, please consider contacting their healthcare provider for further evaluation and testing.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to minimize the spread of illness. Our goal is to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for all students and staff.
Thank you for helping us keep Clarksville ISD healthy!
