CISD Board Trustee Speaks with Nursing Students

CISD would like to thank our Board of Trustee's Vice President, Shuronda Turner, for visiting with our P-TECH Nursing students!!

A Note From Mrs. Turner:

I am a proud graduate of Clarksville ISD. I had the privilege to speak with the students currently in the nursing program provided at our school. These are young ladies and gentlemen made of freshmen and sophomores. Might I add, very respectful. I LOVE we have this program at our school. I love they have chosen this path.

I shared with them first of all that nursing is a work of HEART! Whatever capacity of the medical field they choose begins there. Everything they are doing now, is preparing them for what they want their futures to look like. It’s important to gain as much knowledge as they can. Their GPA’s do matter, so work hard daily. It won’t always be easy, but it will be worth it! We talked of the different fields of nursing and the many surrounding colleges and universities with nursing programs. I encouraged them to take the steps now to look into these schools to see what all they have to offer them. It’s not too early to look at the many scholarships available for them. In order to meet these goals, they must be willing to be taught and challenged. We have awesome teachers at CISD. I want them to take full advantage of their teaching. I also encouraged them to help each other. It does still take a village. They are a part of the village.

I attended nursing school at PJC and started my career as a nurse 26 years ago. Upon graduating, I honestly thought I would be a hospital nurse. I never imagined I would fall in love with the nursing home. I worked at Regency for 7 years, and after two years away, I have now been there(currently Focused Care At Clarksville) for 16 years. I chose nursing or maybe it chose me because, my mother had many health conditions. Growing up I witnessed her in and out of the hospital. I had first hand experience watching the nurses provide such great care for her at our very own hospital in Clarksville. My mom passed away 2 weeks before I started my senior year in high school. As I care for the many who are and have been part of what I think of as my forever family, I want them to receive the same care and compassion I witnessed.

Thank you Mrs. Hobbs and all the staff at CISD for all you do! I’m sure it’s never said enough., but you are appreciated.

Both of my children are TIGERS, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way!
